So, Such, Too, Enough

¿Qué es?

Se utiliza “so” (tan, así, entonces) y “such” (semejante, tal, tan, tanto) para añadir énfasis, mostrar sentimientos extremos o para dar la opinión sobre algo. La diferencia entre los dos está en cómo los utilizamos en la estructura de las frases.

“Enough” y “too” se utilizan como calificadores con adjetivos, adverbios y nombres para indicar un grado de cantidad.

¿Cómo se usa?

Ø So + adjetive/adverb

Se usa con sustantivos para hacer referencia a muy, realmente o extremadamente.

Ejemplo.

·         The weather is so hot today

El clima está muy caliente hoy

Ø Such + adjective + noun

Se usa con adjetivos y adverbios para hacer referencia a muy, realmente o extremadamente.

Ejemplo.

·         He's such an interesting character

Él es un personaje tan interesante

Ø So/such… that…

Se utiliza la cláusula that después de so y such para mostrar resultados o consecuencias.

Ejemplo.

·         The movie was so interesting that I watched it twice

La película fue tan interesante que la vi dos veces

Ø Too + adjective /adverb

Se utiliza too con adjetivos y adverbios para decir que hay algo que necesitamos o queremos.

Ejemplo.

·         You're speaking too fast. Can you speak more slowly, please?

Estás hablando demasiado rápido. ¿Puedes hablar más lento, por favor?

Ø Not + adjective/adverb + enough

Se utiliza not... enough con adjetivos y adverbios para decir que hay menos de lo que necesitamos o queremos.

Ejemplo.

·         It's not quiet enough to study in here

No es lo suficientemente silencioso para estudiar aquí

Ø Too / (not)… enough… to…

Se usa una cláusula de infinitivo too y (not)... enough para mostrar resultados o consecuencias.

Ejemplo.

·         There isn't enough time to see the show

No hay suficiente tiempo para ver el espectáculo

·         The bed was too big to fit in the room

La cama era demasiado grande para caber en la habitación
